Welcome! to Stroudwater Cruisers, a family run boat-building and refitting yard established in 1984, and located in Worcestershire. Confusingly we're nowhere near Stroud, Gloucestershire but at the canal basin in Stourport-on-Severn, where the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal joins the River Severn. Stourport-on-Severn is a fascinating Georgian town, dating from 1765, centred on the Basin, adjacent to the River Severn.
Keith, Hilary and the team build traditional and semi-traditional steel narrowboats, to very high standards of craftsmanship. This perpetuates a Stourport tradition -- in the 19th century wooden cargo boats were built here. Building new is the only way of ensuring that you get exactly what you want--design, materials, layout, equipment - it can be surprisingly cost-effective and brings confidence not always present with used boats.
We build narrowboats to any stage of completion from line-outs or sailaways for completion by owner, or fully fitted. We can advise on everything from suitable layouts, timber and finishes, fabrics, engines, electrical and plumbing equipment etc. all at realistic prices.
There are usually second hand boats for sale with moorings, wet and dry docks and other boatyard services available.
There is an exceptional choice of routes for cruising--remote, rural, city centre, river or canal--the choice is yours. Four miles up the Staffs. & Worcs, one of the loveliest in England, is the southern terminus of the Severn Valley Railway (SVR), England's premier steam line.
